Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know before ordering a custom cutting die.
Questions
What is a steel rule cutting die?
A sharp steel blade bent into the outline of your pattern and fixed in a base. Pressing it into the material cuts the shape cleanly, the same way every time.
What is a clicker die?
Clicker die is the common name for a cutting die used with a clicker press, especially in leather work. Our steel rule dies are used this way by leather crafters.
What do I need to send to order a die?
A drawing file (AI, DXF, SVG or PDF), a scan, or a clear phone photo of your paper pattern. Add the material, its thickness and the quantity.
Can you make a die from a photo?
Yes. Take a clear photo from straight above. We redraw it and send you a 1:1 scale proof before production.
Is there a minimum order?
No. We make dies from one piece.
How much does a custom cutting die cost?
It depends on the size and complexity of the shape, such as the outline length and the number of inner holes. Quotes are free: send your pattern and we reply with a firm price.
How long does production take?
3–7 business days after you approve the proof.
How long does shipping take?
We ship by EMS international post with tracking. Delivery takes 4–7 days, depending on your country.
How do I pay?
By PayPal, after you approve the proof. You can also pay by card through PayPal.
What blade do you use?
Heat-treated SUS steel rule, in 0.71 mm or 0.45 mm thickness.
What is the die height?
23.8 mm (0.937"), the standard steel rule die height, which fits common manual and hydraulic clicker presses.
What bases are available?
Clear acrylic (15 mm), compressed plywood (18 mm) and PVC (5 mm).
How accurate are your dies?
Our tolerance is ±0.1–0.2 mm.
Do you offer free samples?
