Acrylic, plywood or PVC: choosing a die base
The base holds the steel rule in shape. We offer three bases, and each one suits a different kind of work.

The three bases at a glance
| Clear acrylic | Compressed plywood | PVC | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Thickness | 15 mm | 18 mm | 5 mm |
| Main benefit | See the material through the die | Solid, sturdy base for production | Thin and lightweight |
| Typical use | Leather craft | Industrial and production work | When a light, thin base is preferred |
Clear acrylic (15 mm)
Our signature base for leather. Because it is transparent, you can position each cut exactly where you want it, avoid blemishes and follow the grain of the leather.
Compressed plywood (18 mm)
A solid wooden base that suits industrial and production use, such as gaskets, foam and packaging.
PVC (5 mm)
A thin, lightweight base.

Questions
Which die base is best for leather?
Most leather crafters choose our 15 mm clear acrylic base, because they can see the leather through it and place every cut precisely.
Does the base change the die height?
Our dies are made to the standard steel rule die height of 23.8 mm (0.937"). Ask us if your press needs something specific.
